4th November 2017
The second Legends’ Vision event on the 2017 World Tour was held on the 4th November in Mumbai, India and was attended by approximately 5,000 enthusiastic badminton fans!
Pullela Gopichand, winner of the 2001 Yonex All England Open Badminton Championships, and Prakash Padukone, formerly ranked World No. 1, joined the Legends at the event. Current badminton stars, Srikanth Kidambi, who was recently elevated to World No. 2, Pusarla V. Sindhu, and Saina Nehwal were also in attendance.
As the stars entered the stadium, the atmosphere turned electric. The event included a talk show, exhibition matches, and badminton instruction for local junior athletes. Junior athletes played mixed doubles games against the Legends and every point drew cheers from the excited crowd.
Building on the success of the Indian sporting heroes and the growth of the Premier Badminton League, the Legends wanted to elevate the sport of badminton to further improve its status in the country – it is considered, in some people’s opinions, that India is the birthplace of modern badminton!
Peter Gade commented, “Indian badminton has the potential to expand even further. We want to create opportunities for the generation that will come after Sindhu and the others.”
